16 Nov 2008/Saturday ~ The Deca and Quintuple IRON Triathlons are underway in Monterrey Mexico. I have been here since Thursday and will be crewing for Michael Gaertner of Germany as well as blogging about the race for jorge Andonie, the race director. I am doing this for Triathlete magazine as well, they have a link on their website (supposed to but here is the blog page I am doing Kirby's Blog Page. The race website is Deca/Quintuple Website.

15 October 2008 - The race went well overall. Didn't rain on us, water temps were 74 degrees and no major fog for either swim starts (tho Sunday morning was very foggy - we are glad that wasn't Firday or Saturday). Air temps were 47/48 at night and mid to upper 70's during the day. The only problems we had were a couple of the athletes flying into the country and having missing bags. The Slovenian had his race bag with shoes, foods/nutrition stuff missing, somehow it found it's way to San Francisco when they flew in on Wednesday. It finally arrived at the park Saturday morning as he started his first lap on the bike. Guy Rossi of France had his bike and couple bags missing on Wednesday as well but they finally showed up Thursday. Michael Gaertner never did get his bike since landing on Wednesday. They impounded it in Germany after finding something they thought was suspicious (he thinks it was the CO2 cartridges). So he ended up doing a Quintuple swim (12 miles) and then ran till later in the evening to get some training in. We ended up with 14 doing the Triple and 16 doing the Double. One didn't finish the Triple and three didn't finish the Double.
